Thousands of people have died and or injured and 17 million people in the affected area, are in urgent need of shelter, food and medical aid. The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) has launched an emergency appeal to help those in need and with their local partners are among the first responders working on the relief efforts.

The first £20,000 raised will receive 50% matching from The Openwork Foundation.

• £20 could provide blankets for four people to keep them warm in the freezing conditions.
• £50 could provide emergency shelter for two families.
• £100 could provide emergency food for four families for 10 days.

How will your donation help?

The immediate priorities for the DEC and the locally-led teams are:

• Medical treatment for the injured and shelter for those who have lost their homes
• Providing blankets, warm clothes and heaters for safe spaces
• Ensuring people have enough food and clean water.
